Hi! This is my story spine. Apologies for the delay in posting my deliverables - November's been so busy! If you'd like to just read the transcript of the video below, you can do that instead. (The drawings are lower in quality as the video progresses, anyway!)

Transcript:

Once upon a time, there was a young boy named Rian, who, more than anything, wanted to make his parents proud.

Every day, Rian would try, in vain, to seek his parents’ approval, which included helping them out in their struggling family business, doing well in school, and staying out of trouble.

Until one day, Rian starts growing fruit-bearing branches from his head, after accidentally swallowing a fruit seed.

Because of this, Rian’s parents figure out they can cultivate his fruit to create products that will help out the family’s dying business.

Because of that, Rian must obey a stricter set of rules set out by his parents so that he can grow the best fruit and keep his family’s business afloat.

Because of that, Rian becomes his parents’ pride and joy like he’s always wanted, but it comes at the price of his own freedom and happiness.

Until finally, Rian must stand up to his parents and show them that he is more than just his gifts.

Ever since then, Rian’s parents give him the space to cultivate his own interests and openly show Rian their love and pride for him.

The moral of the story is that your gifts don’t define your worth and that a child should not need to earn their parents’ love.
