This is act 1 of "Weird", a short film about a girl named Olivia. She is often called, well, weird, and one day she has a brilliant idea: What if we could switch brains like we do with clothes?
The film starts with her in 1st grade, walking down the hall in school and hearing the other kids talk about her. Back then, Olivia was a non-speaking child. She enters the car and her mom drives her home. As she gets home, we transition to an older version of Olivia, she can now speak and she is in 4th grade. She is still the "weird" one. She enters her room, rocking her pink hair. She is stimming with her fidget toy when her mom comes to check on her and see how school was. "Same as always she says." Her mom goes away, and she lies in bed and stares at her ceiling full of stars. Then the ceiling becomes a screen to Olivia's imagination: she is imagining a closet full of brains. She then chooses one, and switches her gray brain for a neon green one. She sees herself differently. Back to real Olivia laying in bed, she realizes she just had a great idea. End of act 1.
Note: This is just act 1 since I didn't have time to work on my project until this week. I have the rest of the story written as treatment, and I'm hoping to finish the storyreel and perhaps produce the animated film at some point.
