Act I
Dalia and her mom recently moved into her late grandfather's cabin, where they found his old dog, Baloney. Dalia's grandfather was a kind man but struggled to connect to other people. Dalia similarly struggled to make friends at her old school and is unsure whether or not to give her new classmates a chance. Dalia decides to stay in rather than go to a party held by one of her new peers, but Baloney runs away from home, and leads Dalia to the party.
Act II Dalia's face turns into that of a frightened chihuahua (similar to Baloney's) just as she enters the party. She is mortified, but everyone there is pretty chill about it. Their nonchalant attitude only further drives her up a wall. She finds a dark version of Baloney, who tells her he is a local forest spirit attached to her family, and he shows people their "true" faces. Her true face is that of a scared chihuahua. Dalia turns around to see that all of her peer's faces have turned animalistic, and she is but a tiny scared chihuahua in a wild zoo. She jumps out the window and runs into the night.
She finds a bonfire, and next to it appears the ghost of her grandfather and Baloney. He commends her for being braver than he was, and trying to connect to other even is she is a scared chihuahua. The other "animal" kids find Dalia--- and take off their masks. They put on animal masks to try and better understand her and vibe on a similar wavelength as her anxious, weird self.
