Scraps is a small monster living in a landfill with all the other monsters. Scraps is an inquisitive sort and discovers a camera. Learning how to use it, they show off their new find to their siblings.

Scraps also loves watching the garbage men and the trucks, learning all they can about them, from the places they walk, to the way they drive. Wishing to one day become one of them.

At morning bell, Scraps and the other monsters are taken out in garbage trucks to be fed trash and each night they are returned home and protected by the garbage men.

One day a "restricted area" of the landfill appears. Curiosity gets the better of Scraps and, against their siblings wishes, sneak into this brand new area

Whilst inside Scraps witnesses a monster being murdered by the garbage men. Fearing the same may soon happen to their family, Scraps decides they must get proof.

Using their camera, Scraps takes photos, but the light from the camera flash is noticed and Scraps is chased by the garbage men. Scraps is caught and locked up, dropping the camera in the process.

Scraps's siblings secretly retrieve the camera before the garbage men can find it. They return to their family and show them the horrifying proof contained on the camera and resolve to free Scraps.

With a handy distraction, Scraps is rescued by their family. And, after a few failed escape ideas, Scraps comes up with the perfect plan.

The next morning Scraps and their siblings disguise themselves as a garbage man. Collecting their family in one of the trucks, they manage to sneak out with the rest garbage trucks.

Scraps and their family are now on the run from the garbage men. Scraps knows they must one day return to the landfill to free the rest of the monsters, but first they need to survive this strange new world they have escaped into.

The moral of the story is to always question authority and never follow blindly.
