Hi. How's it going? You're looking well.
So like a lot of people, life is hard as well as busy, and I'm not exactly the quickest at the draw, so I'm still borrowing alot of my old chicken scratch. But I wanted to have something in before it was too late, as well as give what was there a little more pep. So I got some music and treated it like a little storytime. Now the text you see, I had originally wanted to do like a spoken/singing attached to it, but my voice doesn't exactly go great with the music. I wanted something I little more snappy/jazzy, but que sera sera.
Once upon a time in the deserts of New Mexico. There lived a man who ran sort of a junk shop aways from the city. He was divorced, and didn’t have a lot of money, but he understood repairs better than anybody, and his shop had a massive junkyard filled to the brim with vechicles, appliances, all kinds of items as far as the eye could see. He also had a young daughter named Maya who was incredibly smart, one of the brightest in her class who dreamt of being an engineer and learnt most of what she knew from him about machines
Now this junk shop also had a run of animals frequent the location. From prairie dogs, to chickens, there’s animals and there’s also a lot of rodents. One in particular is a small, newborn mouse by the name of Rico. He roams across the desert searching for food but lives and eats up a lot of the scraps Maya gives to him and his family.
One night, as he tucks his daughter into bed, telling her bedtime stories, Rico overhears one, telling his daughter about how the moon is made of green cheese. This puts awe into Rico, and becomes dedicated to getting there no matter what.
His first attempts are a…unsuccessful. He learns that jumping and launching himself off the kitchen table leave him stuck in embarrassing situations like getting stuck halfway in the kitchen drain, needing his family to help pull him out…or tangled in springs. He becomes a laughing stock (and some even suggesting to him that the moon isn’t actually made of cheese…but this does not sully his determination).
Realizing this isn’t working he begins reading the many homework books Maya learns from school and begins to understand more complex ideas as well as tinkering with machinery. He uses the trash and mechanisms to build more elaborate devices…none of which get him to the moon, but a few are airborne and get a decent height. He even experiments briefly with Fireworks before realizing the explosions at the end would lead to…problems.
Eventually he builds a device that is incredibly solid, and has the potential to go far.
Here’s where you come in. I have three potential ideas for how to end this, but I want your opinion. I want to do #3 but that might be a bit too advanced to pull off so I’d love to hear any thoughts.
1. The Device lifts off and Rico gets far…very far. High above any building any mountains, passing birds, and the clouds until nearing the atmosphere. Unfortunately this is where the his contraption stammers and slowly plummets back to earth. Rico returns injured but is alive and well, and broken hearted about yet again failing. But his comrades see just what he has accomplished and is celebrated for achieving something truly remarkable
2. Identical to the last, but this time Maya is privy to what has happened and is in awe of the little guy. She reaches out her hand to make friends with the little guy, becoming partners…with possibly credits showing their work trying to build devices, with the two of them ending up at NASA
3. Rico’s latest attempt fails and he realizes this isn’t working. Watching the TV he realizes that the best way to get there is to hitch a ride on a rocket ship heading to space itself. He’s not too far from a rocket site, but will have to travel so he says his goodbyes to his family, and hitches a ride on an assortment of travel methods, from trucks to cars. He eventually reaches one, only carrying with him some suit protection for space, and due to his size is able to sneak ono the base and onto a rocket heading for launch. It shoots off…Rico experiences weightlessness, and ultimately reaches the moon. Ecstatic, Rico rushes off the rocket after it lands, gaining the notice of the astronauts before him. He grabs some chunks from the moon’s surface, rushes back to the ship…takes a bite and discovers…its not cheese (the hard way). He repeats this until it dawns on him the moon isn’t actually made of cheese…breaking his heart. He is crushed, feeling as though he has failed only for the glimmer of the earth to reach his face. We end on a shot of Rico staring in awe at the Earth, thousands of miles before him and its wondrous beauty (maybe having a credit sequence showing him adopted by the astronauts and becoming the first mouse on the moon).
The moral of the story is that even in our greatest failures, we can find our greatest successes (or Even when we might not get what we want, we can still do things that are truly incredible).
