CONCEPT
What is the right way to live and to do things? It is the question of Zaranza, a young mosquito who eats pollen and faints when she sees blood. Everybody says to her there is only one way, their way, but, for the poor Zaranza, it's so complicated trying to act in the same way as others. How can she pick humans as other mosquitos? Dance as butterflies? Work so hard as a bee? Or use only polka dots on dresses as a ladybug stylist? Through her adventurous journey, she finally discovers that the world is full of surprises. Even the desert found a way to contribute to the Earth's balance and life. She can find her own way, too.
SYNOPSIS
A sunny day, a lawn of colourful flowers.
Gazing them all the time is the right way to live?
Or maybe getting a taste of all the different pollens is the better thing?
Zaranza has many questions about the matter.
But nobody else around her appreciates doubts and questions.
The mosquito instructor clearly explains: " Only one way! Blood!"
Viewing blood, Zaranza faints.
How can she pass her first mission?
The mosquito instructor shows the target. "Pick them!" She orders, "Attack!"
Zaranza stops over a flower.
"What are you doing?" The instructor yells against her.
Zaranza tries to act in the same way as other mosquitos.
But when she sees blood, she faints.
She falls on the top of a bottle of insecticide, pressing down the regulator. A deadly cloud spreads around.
Mosquitos terrified escape.
The mission fails. All mosquitos blame it on Zaranza. "It's not the way a mosquito behaves!"
They chase her away.
Alone she flys, flys, flys.
Until she meets with some butterflies taking a dance lesson.
Amazing! Zaranza wants to become a dancer.
She shows her way to dance. But butterflies don't appreciate it.
"It's not the way!”
Butterflies chase her away.
She flys, flys, flys.
Until she meets with a worker bee.
Making honey: so useful. Zaranza wants to become a worker mosquito.
The bee is a workaholic. Zaranza loves to contemplate the flowers' beauty.
The bee is tidy. Zaranza is more ... creative?
The bee is careful. Zaranza has problems carrying jars of honey.
"It's not the way!"
The bee chase her away.
Zaranza flys, flys, flys.
Until she sees a group of mosquitos travelling towards the North.
Exciting! She could become an explorer.
Suddenly a bird arrives.
All mosquitos escape in the leaves of a tree.
They say: "Come here! Yours is the wrong way!"
But Zaranza chooses the opposite direction.
She's safe. But below her, there is the sea.
And another danger: a fish.
“There isn’t a way you can yourself!”
Instead, there is: Zaranza sees a boat.
Flys, and lands on it.
Here she meets Coco Chinel, a ladybug going to Paris to become a stylist.
Stylist? Zaranza wants to try.
But Coco Chinel says: "Stripes are wrong! The solid colour is wrong. Only polka dots are the right way. You must use poopoo of flies: black and round. For all your creation."
Zaranza is not sure. And Coco Chinel forsakes her.
The boat arrives in North Africa. Zaranza lands.
Luckily, a flower. But someone is spying on her.
The bully gang of Alì Zanzà and the forty mosquito robbers kidnap her and make a trial.
Alì Zanzà explains: “If mosquitos don't pick humans, humans lose their meaning. They are born to give blood to mosquitos. It’s the only way the world can go on.”
Mosquitos give her the last opportunity. When Zaranza sees blood, she feels faint.
But this time, not! She's fed up. Why can't she choose her own way?
The sentence is immediate: she will be abandoned in the desert. Is it the end?
Not, it isn't. During the night, the wind starts to blow. Zaranza tries to resist. Then, viewing the sand flowing in the air, she thinks sometimes the right way is to let it go”.
So she doesn't struggle. The wind raises Zaranza across the desert, across the ocean, up to another land, up to a forest.
Where Zaranza meets with the wisest of the wise mosquitos: the Mosquisage. He doesn't appear in the way Zaranza has imagined a sage.
Mosquisage tells her: "Why do all claims exist only one way? You arrived from the Sahara, a place that is contrary to life, in the common opinion. But a time ago, Sahara was a forest and its sand contains parts of that. When sand arrives here, it feeds the Amazon Forest. The desert has its own way of participating in the Earth's balance and life. There isn't only one way."
Inspired by these words, Zaranza looks around her. She discovers a beautiful, incredible flower: a monkey-face orchid. Zaranza is nervous. But the sympathy is mutual. Monkey-face orchids are very rare, and mosquitos can only pollinate them.
Zaranza found a way to live, that she loves, her own way.
