Once Upon a Time … there was a girl who is tired, bored and depressed about her life. Tired of doing the same thing over and over again:
Every day blends into the next: eating breakfast, walking to school, sitting in classrooms, spacing off while staring out the window, going to the library to do homework, walking home, her parents asking how her homework went (and she ignoring them), eating dinner, then going to bed. . .
Until one day … she breaks routine, by climbing up a tree and onto the roof of her house. There, she she pulls out some fruity gummy stars that she got from a friend at school, that her friend says are really good, pops some in her mouth, lays back, chewing and watching the stars above when she notices one star that is getting larger and larger, and appears to be coming toward her. Suddenly the blinding bright light engulfs her - she blocks the light with her arms and the bright white light becomes too much to bear, and her eyes shut.
Because of that … She wakes up on a different planet with several moons in the night sky illuminating the bizarre terrain she is standing on. Scared, nervous, yet exhilarated and curious at the same time, she begins to explore. She meets a cat. The cat can talk. And she spends time with it and sees some interesting things. Then, she suddenly wakes up back on her roof top and wonders if it was all a hallucination.
Because of that … The next day begins as usual (insert some routines of the day), until walking to the library after school. Passing a alley she has passed seemingly everyday of her life, she hears a “mew.” She stops, and peers into the darkened area with dumpsters and old cars. Then, another mew, and more. She cautiously walks into the alley and sees the cat from the other planet. Or what looks like the cat. She leans down to pet the cat, and as she touches it her body transforms into a cat. She spends the afternoon being a cat and playing with other cats, only to go home after transforming back into her human form. No one knows. Parents ask how homework went, and she smiles and says, Purrfect.
Because of that . . . Everyday she goes to school and watches the clock until the school day is over, ignoring everyone and everything around her as if she is in a trance. Homework does not get done, she never knows what the question is the teacher asks her, and all of her schoolwork is covered with doodles of cats. When the school bell finally rings she bee-lines to the alley to join her cat community.
Until finally … she decides one day to go to the alley first, and not to school at all, because she has found her love, community and reason to live through the cats in the alley. Back at home each evening, her parents are pleased with how happy she seems to be, and how eager she is to go to “school” in the mornings.
And ever since then … She spends her day adventuring as a cat, spending more and more time as a cat, until one day she wakes up in bed still a cat.
The Moral of the Story is … No matter what, there is always a place for you.
