Of all the weaponized animals at BioWonder Labs, Vernon holds the biggest grudge. Thanks to a slipup with his DNA – Coyote instead of Doberman Pinscher - he doesn’t fit in with his fellow assassins and hates everyone at the lab. When the Big Boss comes to visit, Vernon insults him. So, the Big Boss decides to have Vernon destroyed, along with all the other failed animals from the lab, as entertainment at his annual New Year’s Eve “Rodeo.”

Scared, Vernon hides in the air ducts around the lab. He meets a human girl, Emmylou, who is a captive subject because of her psychic powers and electrical talents. Vernon sets her free, and together they stow away on the Big Boss’s helicopter. It takes them to his home, a ski resort called Kingdom Come.

Vernon, who now hates the Big Boss most of all, decides to kill him and all his friends and family at the rodeo. The only problem is, he’s falling in love with Emmylou. She can hear his thoughts, and she does not approve of this plan, so he is careful to censor his thoughts when he’s with her.

Sneaking around the resort, Vernon learns of an audition for the band who will be playing at the rodeo. It happens that – thanks to his DNA – he is a fantastic singer. He decides this would be his chance to kill the Big Boss (and all his friends and family) at the rodeo. He lies to Emmylou, and tricks her into helping him at the audition. They talk their way in, and Vernon gets the job. He thinks, just for a second, of what he’ll do at the rodeo, and Emmylou hears him. She is horrified and leaves him.

Vernon drowns his loneliness in new pleasures, including murder. He starts killing scientists from the lab, who are at Kingdom Come to help with the rodeo. He loves getting revenge but can’t stop missing Emmylou.

One day, he sees her working in the restaurant. He runs outside to meet her, excited and happy. But Emmylou isn’t happy with him. She warns him to stop killing people. Then she touches his chest and delivers a huge electric shock. It cracks the armored coating around his heart. He cries for the very first time, then runs away.

That night, Vernon stalks another scientist, Dr. Green. Memories escape from the cracked armor around his heart, and Vernon realizes that Dr. Green was actually pretty nice to him. When Dr. Green tries to kill himself by cutting his wrists, Vernon rushes forward and declares that he was supposed to kill him. Green only says that Vernon would be doing him a favor, then he loses consciousness.

Torn between mercy and revenge, Vernon chooses not to do Dr. Green any favors. Instead, he saves his life.

After that, Vernon doesn’t kill any more scientists. He enjoys his other pleasures and starts making friends. Best of all, he reunites with Emmylou, and they are buddies again. He loves spending time with her, yet is careful to control his thoughts because…

Vernon still plans to kill the Big Boss, and maybe just some of his friends and family, at the rodeo.
