At this moment he is in front of the building prepared to do his daily walk, as part of his routine as a retired employee from a big company. He is thinking about the ride he is going to do.
Every day he walks to a small square near his house and sometimes finds some people he recognizes and also says hello or even trivial talks such as the weather or the traffic.

You should start by telling us what it's like for John everyday.

Then something needs to happen.

John is an older man that lives alone in his apartment.
Every day, John makes his walk in his neighborhood,
Minor beat: where he knows really well and feels comfortable,
Minor beat: as the streets and pavements have some obstacles that he already know
Minor beat: Normally he passes at the laundry, groceries stores and the small market.
Major beat: Until one day he saw an older man, with a similar age as his, playing with a kid around the corner
Minor beat: He remembered that his grandson is not so far away and would be such a nice surprise to reach him by the end of his classes
Because of that, he decided to change his path to go to his grandson school and surprise the kid.
Minor beat: He also reminded that in the last time he decided to make this walk, it started to rain and he could not go further
Because of that, he checked the forecast again and there was no rain expected for today
Because of that, he decided to try again and follow his heart full of love and eager to hug his loved grandson.
Because of that, he will face one of his main fears: cross a different area, with streets, sidewalks and a park full of bikes, scooters and pavements that he need to overcome, even with his physical frailty.

Act 2 – John goes to reach his goal
Once decided, he followed his heart and wish to hug the lovely grandson he misses so much.
But now, he needs to think about a strategy to minimize the risks and make the path as a pleasant moment.
He knows that he is not so strong as before when he was a young, but on the other side he is much more mature and wiser and knows how to enjoy different trips, landscapes and avoid unnecessary risks.
Nevertheless, he notices the subtle fear and the will to make this journey. Something fresh and challenging, as he a long ago had felt. After carefully cross the street towards his grandson school, he remembers some moments in his life that he had thrilled like that.
He has a long crosswalk to pass through and he believes the time to cross is short and he cannot walk so fast, so he waits to start the crossing as soon as possible, and there are several people doing the same.
Traffic lights green and here he goes. Stressful, but on time, but the red light started to flash by the end of the crossing.
He reaches the park. A mixed feeling starts, as it should be a nice place for walking. However, there are several obstacles to overcome here. “I will survive”, he thinks.
The bike lanes, that is his main fear in this area, as people here are not so responsible, specially with elderlies like him. This means that they abuse from the speed and it is quite common to have accidents, where people get injured, and many times needing to go the hospital.
In addition to this, the scooters are also in the bike lane, and in the main road, there are not physical barriers between the sidewalk and the bike lane and this scares him so much.
It is 11 AM and he has about 1 hour to reach the school. He could also pick an Uber, but the idea is to exercise, as the doctor recommended and he is on time to get there.
Because of that, he keeps on walking and is becoming to get tired and would like to rest. So, it is time to find a bench and relax a little bit.
He is also thirsty, as the day is warm. Maybe it can be a problem, as he doesn´t know if there are bathrooms available during the rest of the way.
Because of that, he buys a small bottle of water and get back to walk to his destination. Now, there is a detour, as the city council is making some improvements in the park and he has to deviate and a small regret feeling rises.
No way! He speaks to himself, let´s enjoy the trip, I am almost getting there. And he sees the grandson school far away, a view that excites him to the final walk, as his memory brings back the kid image.



Act 3 – The end
He sees the school. It is good, but still needs to walk through a hilly street to reach there. His feet and legs are tired and he feels a discomfort together with a small pain.
The school gets closer and he is on time, he will get there five minutes before the students start to leave the school.
Step by step he arrives at the school gate and ask to the responsible person in front of the school about his grandson.
Surprising him, the woman answers that the kid were not at the school because he was ill and would be absent today to go to the hospital.
For one minute, John is shocked and does not know what to do.
- “all this for nothing!”- he whispers
And then turn around to evaluate the possibilities to get back home without accomplishing his goal.
And the he sees his daughter´s car coming in the street and she also recognizes John in front of the school and smile to him.
She parks the car close to John and he barely see his grandson in the backseat with a great smile on his face because he will hug his grandpa that he loves so much.
As he walks towards the car, the kid jumps from the car and run to hug his grandpa and John, almost crying of heart fulfillment, listen from him.
- “Let´s have the lunch with us, Grandpa.”
If happiness is different from it, I have no idea of what is, he answers entering in the car.
