Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Milly. Her parents did not have much time to play with her, so they gifted her a kite.
Every day, Milly would spend a lot of time in her yard playing with her kite. She wanted to impress her parents with her perfect flying technique.
Until one day, the wind suddenly stopped blowing and the kite could not fly anymore.
Milly, who had a really short temper, got very angry.
But then she had an idea to get her kite to fly again.
She tried a lot of different ways: a blowdrier, a fan, a balloon and blowing on it. She even tried to throw it off a cliff, but nothing worked.
Because of that, Milly decided to go looking for the wind herself. She grabbed a backpack and left.
First, she went to the woods to ask branches and leaves. “Have you seen the wind?” But she got no answer in return, as all the leaves were fallen and the branches barren.
Before she left, a little seedling jumped in her pocket, but Milly didn’t notice.
She then went to the beach to talk to the waves. “Have you seen the wind?” she asked, but waves have a quick life: before they could complete their answer, they died on the shore.
A little voice came from Milly’s pocket, and she found the seedling.
“I know who might help you” the seedling said. “The old windmill on top of the hill will surely know where the wind is”.
Milly and the seedling travelled to the old windmill and, once they arrived, Milly asked “Do you know where the wind is?”
“I sure do”
“So? Where is it?”
“The Wind is long gone. It went away for the season, as it has always done and always will”.
Not happy with the answer, Milly got angry again.
But the windmill spoke again: “You can get angry as much as you want, but that won’t change anything. Sometimes there is nothing to do but wait”
“The windmill is right, Milly” said the seedling “ I too wish I could be a big strong tree already, but I have to wait for the wind to come back and carry me on soft land. Would you like to wait together?
Milly liked that idea and put the seedling back in her pocket.
Together, they travelled back to Milly’s home, where she put the seedling In a vase “I know all I can do is wait, but you don’t have to.”
Ever since then, Milly has learned to be patient. She spent the winter playing with more seasonal toys and, when summer came back around, so did the wind, lifting her kite up in the sky once more.
