Once upon a time a cactus named Lulu Prickleton came to life when a magical hat landed on her.

As she wandered around the desert….

she stumbled upon a small mid-Western town.

Every day: she wanted to laugh and talk with people.

She tried to interact with people by waving hello to them.

However, people ignored her

Until one day she gained the courage to try to talk with a human.

When she tried to speak with people, they would slowly back away

They thought that she was weird since she looked different. So they gossiped about Lulu amongst each other behind Lulu’s back.

Because of: Lulu Prickleton’s desire to make friends, she changed herself into a different version of herself that she doesn’t recognize.

She painfully shaved off her spines against a rock

She lost her spines and with it part of her identity.

...

Because of that: She goes back into the town to see how people would react, hoping that they would accept her.

minor beat: She was still treated the same regardless of her change in appearance.

minor beat: She gave up on making friends because she felt like she didn’t belong.
...

Because of her constant failures when trying to fit in and make friends, she stopped feeling the need to find approval from others, and she stopped caring about how others view her
minor beat: She learned to accept herself because trying to appease others was pointless and she wasn’t gaining anything from it.

Regardless of how hard she tried to change herself, she still was the same person on the inside and outside.

Until finally… she decided to leave the town to get away from people who don't seem to like her. As she was lost in her thoughts she had already walked far away from the town.
minor beat: She felt tired and decided to take a rest to clear her mind, and noticed a lizard curled up next to her

The lizard approached Lulu Prickleton closer and was not scared of her appearance but friendly towards her. They got along very well and talked for hours almost till sunset.

And ever since then...she started to be more like herself instead of trying to change into someone she’s not.

She was comfortable in making friends with others that were willing to accept her for who she was and realized there were more out there that actually care about her existence.

She was finally able to express her feelings and thoughts with friends without being judged. She finally felt like she truly belonged.
